Copying services are authorized to distribute the shareware version of
Wssindex for a reasonable fee, provided only that the complete package is
distributed. You may also add additional text or BAT files with
instructions and advertisements. Please contact the author if you wish to
modify the documentation files. Also, you are encouraged to contact the
author so that I can send you a copy of the latest release. Descriptions
below may be used verbatim or edited.
If the shareware files are posted in compressed form on a BBS, the
suggested file names are WSSI522A.xxx and WSSI522B.xxx where xxx is the
usual extension for the archiver used. Combining all the files into one
archive is not recommended because it makes extraction to 360K floppies
awkward.
Hardware/software requirements
Almost any MS-DOS machine (special versions available for DEC Rainbow
and TI Professional)
256K memory, but you won't be happy with capacity. 512K+ recommended
MS/PC DOS 2.1+, 4DOS, NDOS or DR-DOS
One-line program description:

Alternate one-line description

ASP member.

categories to files and disks. Select files from the database by a
variety of criteria, direct reports to screen, printer or disk. Print
disk labels and covers. Database is kept in memory during operation
for speed. Capacity is 10-12,000 files. Supports dot matrix, laser
and postscript printers. Necessary codes to use unsupported printers
may be entered in an ascii definition file. Option to support screen
readers for the blind by directing important messages through DOS.
Registration fee $35 plus shipping ($2.50 US/Canada, $4.50 foreign).
Optional printed manuals $10 US/Canada, $16 elsewhere. Registered
version includes manual in ascii and Word Perfect 5.1 formats,
shareware version has only ascii version. ASP member.
Also now available, but _not_ shareware, is Wssindex/Extended. DOS
extender technology from Ergo Computing allows access to up to 16 MB
of RAM for database storage on a 286 or higher CPU. 6 MB memory
allows a 100,000 file database. Extended version, which includes DOS
version, costs $50 plus shipping.
